Posti-plasto is a citizen science project in which I partnered with a fellow designer to create awareness around composting & bioplastics through product design. We spent a year developing a starch based bioplastic that could be cast into a 3D printed PLA mold (PLA is compostable in industrial composting facilities). We worked with the composting community in Chicago, researched trends, and created concepts that relied on bio-mimicry for inspiration.
The result was a backyard compostable air plant holder that we launched & received full funding for on Kickstarter. We created something fun and trendy for the home, yet good for the earth when the product’s life with you is complete.
